We spoke last week about the foundation stone which is Jesus, and that the gospel should be Christ centric. Today I want to talk about the word of God. If we were to take our text from John the opening verse “ In the Beginning was the Word, and the word was with God and the word was God.” In the Greek translation you have the word Logos which is close because it means the expressed thought, because your words are thoughts expressed, but really when it comes to our God it is even deeper than that. God is the word and the word is God. In creation God Just spoke let there be and there was………..the word has creative power. Gods word is the absolute, it is sovereign, it is the supreme court for instance if you have children they will play the parents against one another, just to illustrate Aaron sees a bar of chocolate, maybe I have bought it for later on, he asks me can I have it, I say no; now my no should be the absolute, but lets say he goes and asks Corinne and implies that daddy doesn’t really care either way and she says yes, it doesn’t matter I said no. That’s the absolute, no is no, you see Gods word is the absolute, if God says stealing is a sin that is his final word on the matter. Wel,l you say but I am hungry and they can afford it, Gods word is absolute. We should live by the word of God In the temptation Jesus used the word to show us an example of how to overcome temptation it is written. When offered food to end his fast untimely Jesus said “ man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. In other words Jesus was saying that just as you eat potatoes greens pulse chicken and you know we love chicken, to sustain us and nourish our bodies we also need Gods word to nourish us. Gods word is food thy word were hid and I did eat them said the prophet, the proud man or woman cannot digest it, but we need it to live. John ate the book in Revelations, we need to feed upon…..are you reading the word of God This very scripture comes from Deuteronomy 8:3-6 Moses begins to remind them of the benefits of obeying gods word and taking heed to instruction. To Obey God is Life to disobey is death God was proving them in the wilderness to see if they would keep his word, he lists some of the benefits of living by Gods word….Food not from tesco, not from Sainsbury’s, not from even food giant, not even from netto, God sent them food from heaven: When you are living by Gods word you will experience supernatural provision from heaven, Angels food God robbed angels of their lunch to give to men. Back to Basics They ad he same clothes for forty years, and I thought Marks and Spencer’s was good!! If I was in the textile business I would go bankrupt, not only were they everlasting clothes but they were in fashion because everyone was wearing the same thing!! Live by his words and prosper disobey and die. The word of God is our guide it gives us direction and instruction. Adam was given the word and as long as he obeyed it he was safe. Once we stay within the confines of his word we will prosper, and went out of his word and obeyed the devil, then tragedy catastrophe begins to take place, because he failed to obey the word of God, Maybe you are in the position you are in because you have stepped out of his word. Get back to God, get back to his word, get back to the bible. It may seem old fashioned ancient but it is still relevant, one person told me how can you believe the bible, men wrote and it has been changed so many times. Let me tell that in peter it says that the bible is of no private interpretation but the men of God spoke as they were moved by the spirit, and as for is it changed when you consider that it was written over a period of 1500 years by forty or so different writers, and when you consider that there were over 500 manuscripts written from that time, without any real discrepancies between them and to confirm even more in 1947 scriptures were found in the Qumran caves, and their books compared with the manuscripts again with no discrepancies God watches over his word. You can trust they bible, just as you set your clock by Greenidge mean time you can set your life by the bible every word of it is true I was looking at the news and nearly every nation has some kind of problem they are trying to find the solution but I must say the solution is in this black book the word of God. problem, Saints of god we need to get back to basics the word of God Mans theology and ideas do not have the answer we need to get back to this book. Jeremiah said he said is not my word like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces Gods word is a sword, in fact it is sharper than a two edged sword, the swords back then were so sharp they were almost surgical, they could cut your arm off clean, they so sharp, the word of God can surgically remove sin from you, and penetrate, what did the bible say when Steven was preaching they were cut to the heart Saints of God do not run from God let the word of God carry out an operation on your heart. Back to Basics the word brings offence, if you want to lose friends speak the word, you want to be a preacher of righteousness, be ready for opposition you will upset someone, the amount people that are offended with me for no other reason than the word that I preach, the word brings offence. But im going to preach it any way, I cant dilute it to suit this worldly backslidden worldly church it cannot change. Churches are leaving the word, well they say homosexuality was Old Testament, no my friend Paul talks about in Romans that men turn their lust to one another. Lets Read II Timothy 4:1-4 Paul in his wisdom knew the church would pull away from biblical teaching And saw prophetically that the Gentile church of which he was a master builder in 2004 would not be able to endure sound doctrine, but would prefer nice stories, and lectures about foolishness But he was not talking about this church this church loves the word of God We are going to fashion our lives by it. It tells how to be Christian forsake not the assembling of yourselves, it tells to submit to authority, “ well I am English you say and individualistic, Ill come and do just what I want, pastor cannot tell what to do, I am afraid your outside of the word, well ill get married but no man will tell me what to do, your outside of the word again because it says wives submit yourselves to your husbands, No pastor I am a modern woman I believe in woman’s liberation, show me in the bible any trace of woman’s liberation Get back to the word Start living by the word When we live by his directives he will take care of us, Whatever his word says we must do it even if it hurts us, or corrects us, the problem is that many ministries run by, tradition and not by the word of God, they run by mans understanding, but we need to be directed by the word of God
