We will be looking at some bible examples of
submission
We will find out that the character that we are expected to portray is far different
to what we perceive and goes against the grain, of worldly views.
Genesis 16:9 And the angel of the LORD said
unto her, Return to thy mistress, and submit thyself under her hands.
And the angel of the LORD said unto her, I will multiply thy seed exceedingly,
that it shall not be numbered for multitude.
Hagar was told to submit, someone explain in literal terms what she had to do?
I Corinthians 16:16 That ye submit yourselves unto such, and to every one that
helpeth with us, and laboureth. I am glad of the coming of Stephanas and Fortunatus
and Achaicus: for that which was lacking on your part they have supplied.
Paul was advising the church to submit to the church workers he had appointed.
Again the question I am asking is what would you expect from someone who submits
Ephesians 5: 22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the
Lord.
The word submit in the in English language can be used in different contexts.
For instance you can submit your papers, for and exam.
You are handing over your paper, to submit , can mean to hand over your opinion,
your selfwill.
Again you sometimes may watch a wrestling match, when one of them bangs the
floor he is submitting
.you win..before you break my arm, in that setting
you are forced to submit due to pain, but in the Kingdom it is something that
you hand over.
Colossians 3:18 Wives, submit yourselves unto
your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord.
Hebrews 13:17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves:
for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may
do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.
From the moment a child is born you have to
teach them submission, and in the proverbs it teaches us not to spare the rod
and spoil the child.
Because smacking children is banned we have a spoiled generation of kids, capable
of murder rape, and violence, watch there attitude " I am a free agent,
nobody tells me what to do."
Romans 13: 1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is
no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
We are to be subject to earthly authorities, we are to respect our leaders,
and not to slander them.
16 As free, and not using your liberty for a cloak of maliciousness, but as
the servants of God.
The Christian life involves giving up our rights, with the hope of something
better coming.
Submission
I Peter 2: 13 Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake:
whether
it be to the king, as supreme;
I Peter 5:5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all
of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth
the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.
Explain how we can be subject to one another.
Submission is the key to greatness.
James 4: 7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will
flee from you.
Even Jesus himself submitted as a young teenager, under mary and Joseph
God
in the flesh
Later on he submitted in the Garden of gesthemane " not my will but thine
he said to the father.
In the Epistles of Peter, Paul, and especially Jude, they describe people that
despise authority.
I Timothy 3: Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4Traitors, heady, high-minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
I Peter 2; 10 But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, self-willed, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities. Whereas angels, which are greater in power and might, bring not railing accusation against them before the Lord. 12But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption
Is this the sinner Peter is talking about or apostate church members?
Jude 8 Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile
the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities. Yet Michael the archangel,
when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not
bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee. 10But
these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally,
as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves.
We as Christians are to be under authority, God has order.
What happened with Miriam and Aaron?
Numbers 12:1 And Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Ethiopian
woman whom he had married: for he had married an Ethiopian woman. 2And they
said, Hath the LORD indeed spoken only by Moses? Hath he not spoken also by
us? And the LORD heard it. 3(Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the
men which were upon the face of the earth.)
These prophesies are warnings of the type of people the church would face in
the future, I believe we are already here.
Many are self opinionated, challenge authority, speak against rulers.
Study every coo in an army, throughout history, every uprising or division was
caused by someone who would not submit.
We are not to speak evil of leaders Titus 3: 1Put them in mind to be subject
to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good
work, 2To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, showing all meekness
unto all men
Many today wrestle with the idea that God is the absolute authority, his word
is not to be taken lightly. Many wrestled with Paul's teaching
2 Peter 3:15 (NKJV)
15and consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation-as also our beloved
brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you,
16as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are
some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable people twist to
their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures;
Rather than submit to the teaching of the Apostle
they wrestled with it, and challenged it.
The world is in the mess it is in because of generation after generation rebel
against both human and divine authority.
Paul understood authority and was sometimes challenged, in fact 2 Corinthians
is also a response to those who doubted his apostolic authority.
Have you ever spoken against a leader?
Jude 8 Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion,
and speak evil of dignities. Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with
the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a
railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee. 10But these speak evil of
those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts,
in those things they corrupt themselves.
Again you can tell by the Language used by Jude that it is not a pick me up
sermon, it is a warning, and this message is not for the sinner but for the
apostate church members.
Jude gives us a key to understanding why people murmur and complain.
Because they want to pursue their own ungodly lust,
Jude 15 To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among
them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all
their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him. These are
murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh
great swelling words, having men's persons in admiration because of advantage.
For example many people will murmur when things
are not done their way
my way would have been better, or somebody has
been chosen for a position over them.
When ever you join a company or an organisation, keep away from the one that
murmurs and complains a lot, it is usually the one that really wants the post
for themselves.
So they speak harsh words against there leaders.
In Gods Kingdoms there are no back benchers, ether you are in the cabinet making
the decisions or you should shut up.
Another reason why we complain and murmur is because we a so opinionated, "
well this is what I think" I do not believe it should be done that way
..we
need to watch that word I, there is far too much of it in our speech.
For personal edification read Philemon it is
about a slave that escaped from his master.
Paul told him to return and submit.
